When new signings arrive at a big club, there are always stories of surprise and discovery.

Players often admit that they didn’t fully understand the quality of their teammates until they shared the same dressing room.

Liverpool fans know this well, as many arrivals have spoken about the shock of training alongside world-class footballers every day.

Goalkeepers especially fall into this category.

From the stands or on television, their best qualities can sometimes go unnoticed.

The details of their communication, their calmness, and their leadership become clear only when you are next to them on the pitch.

Alexis Mac Allister’s recent admission about Alisson Becker is a perfect example.

Before moving to Liverpool, he had a very different view of the Brazilian shot-stopper.

But after two years together at Anfield, his opinion has completely changed.

Now, the Argentine midfielder has shared what he really thinks of Liverpool’s number one.

Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton in the summer of 2023 for £35m.

At that point, Alisson had already been at the club for five years, having joined from AS Roma in a record deal for a goalkeeper.

In that time, the Brazilian had built a legacy, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and even lifting the Copa America with his country.

Despite all those medals, Mac Allister admits he wasn’t convinced at first.

“I tell him, ‘You know, when I was at Brighton, I didn’t understand what the hype was all about.”

“I didn’t really rate you’,” Mac Allister revealed in an interview with ESPN.

But training and playing alongside Alisson every week has completely shifted his view.

The Argentine now recognises what Liverpool supporters have long known.

“Now, damn?

Well, ok, you, Dibu [Martinez] and [Thibaut] Courtois.”

It’s a striking U-turn, but one that shows how much respect Alisson has earned inside his own dressing room.

Liverpool’s number one has gone from being doubted by a future teammate to being named in his personal top three goalkeepers in the world.

That kind of acknowledgment from a fellow South American who once faced him as a rival speaks volumes.
